Athletes from Mokokchung district returned with a total of 12 medals from the 2nd Nagaland Junior Athletics Championship 2025, held on September 10 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima. The team secured two gold, five silver and five bronze medals across various track and field events.
The district was represented by 19 athletes — 15 boys and 4 girls — who were selected after their performances at the Mokokchung District Junior Athletics Meet earlier this year.
According to Mokokchung Athletics, the athletes demonstrated consistency in multiple categories ranging from sprints and middle-distance events to triathlon and field events.
In the under-14 category, Lanutemjen Kichu won gold in Triathlon (A), Arenlong added a bronze in the same category, while Lanuonen Jamir (Triathlon B), Imliwar Jamir (Triathlon C) and Sungjemyongla Jamir
(Triathlon B, girls) also claimed bronze medals.
The under-16 division produced notable results. Imlinungba clinched gold in the 60-meter sprint, while
Imjungsunep Pongen took silver in the 600 meters. Meyijung T Jamir won silver in the girls’ 600 meters and bronze in the 60 meters, contributing two medals to the district’s tally.

In the under-18 category, Sentionen Jamir earned silver in the boys’ shot put. Imnasenla, representing
Mokokchung in the Under – 18 girls’ section, secured two silvers in the 100-meter and 200-meter races.
Overall, Mokokchung athletes finished with 12 medals: two gold, five silver and five bronze. The management team was led by Rongsentoshi Jamir as overall in-charge, with Furmayang Pongen serving as team manager and Nukshikala Jamir as coach.
Mokokchung Athletics also confirmed that Imlinungba Kichu, gold medalist in the under-16 60 meters, has been selected to represent Nagaland at the upcoming East Zone Junior Athletics Meet in Ranchi, Jharkhand. His selection marks a transition from district-level representation to the state level.
The association, in its statement, commended the athletes for their performances and expressed optimism about their prospects in future competitions.
