The Office of Mokokchung Athletics unveiled plans today for an exhilarating Independence Day Marathon scheduled to take place on August 15, 2023, at the iconic Imkongmeren Sports Complex in Mokokchung Town. This grand event is being held under the auspices of the Mokokchung District Sports Council and is set to be a highlight of the Azadi ka Amrit Mohotsav celebrations, commemorating India’s 75 years of independence.
The marathon aims to not only uplift the athletic spirit of Mokokchung district but also address the community’s overall health and well-being. The theme of the event, “Discover, Nurture, Excel,” reflects the organizers’ commitment to fostering talent and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the citizens.

Athletes from all walks of life are invited to participate in the marathon, which will feature four categories for both male and female participants. The Senior category, open to individuals aged 18 and above, will challenge participants to cover a distance of 10 kilometers. Meanwhile, the Junior category, designed for those below 18 years, will span a distance of 8 kilometers.

Exciting rewards await the victors, with the first-place winners in each category earning a handsome cash prize of Rs. 5000/- along with a certificate of accomplishment. Second and third-place finishers will be awarded Rs. 3000/- and Rs. 2000/- respectively, along with certificates recognizing their achievements. Every participant who successfully completes the race within the stipulated time will also receive a certificate of participation.
To participate, athletes are required to submit a Xerox copy of their Aadhaar card (or Birth certificate, in case of unavailability of Aadhaar) for age and address verification. A nominal registration fee of Rs. 50/- per athlete is applicable. Registration can be completed by either submitting cash or using Google Pay with the provided contact number: 7628944139.
