The Mokokchung Athletics Association on September 11 felicitated the district athletics achievers at the District Sports Office following their participation at the 2nd Nagaland Junior Athletics Championship in Kohima.
Martoshi Jamir, Vice President of the Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC), handed over certificates to the athletes during the program. All the achievers were felicitated with certificates, while participants were also acknowledged for their efforts and certificates were presented. Parents of the athletes were present at the function.
In a brief address, Jamir urged the young sportspersons to take sports seriously and consider the broader career opportunities within the field.
“It is high time to take sports seriously,” Jamir said, noting that career avenues exist not only for athletes but also for coaches, physiotherapists, sports journalists, managers, and those interested in starting academies or training centers. He cautioned athletes against pursuing sports casually, emphasizing that the profession requires “sacrifice, dedication, perseverance, and consistency.”

Jamir also reminded the athletes that success cannot be achieved through short-term preparation. “If you work out like fire for one week ahead of the tournament, it is not going to help in the long run. You will be exhausted when the day arrives,” he said. He further advised the athletes to remain humble in victory and to focus on steady improvement, adding: “Be better and better, focus on doing better and keep going.”
At the program, the Association also acknowledged Imlinungba Kichu, who has been selected to represent Nagaland Athletics at the upcoming East Zone Junior Athletics Meet in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The
Association announced that it would sponsor his travel expenses from Mokokchung to Dimapur, the training center, and back. Officials confirmed that Kichu would be dropped to Dimapur on Friday.
The Association extended its best wishes to Kichu as he prepares to compete at the zonal level, describing him as a source of pride for the district.
