In compliance to the Urban Development Department notification banning single use plastics, the Mokokchung Municipal Council has issued a notification to completely ban all Single Use Plastics(SUPs) carry bags irrespective of microns and all Single Use Plastic bottles for water and soft drinks below 1(one) litre within the Mokokchung Municipal jurisdiction with effect from August 1, 2024.

In this regard, all individual, institution/commercial establishment (educational institutions, offices, hotels, shops, restaurants, religious institutions/faith-based institutions, industrial establishment, banquet halls etc) in the ULB shall abide the aforesaid ban and any breach shall be liable for penalties, informed the notification issued by Chumlamo Humtsoe, ADC & Administrator, Mokokchung Municipal Council.

A penalty of Rs. 10,000/- for first offence, and Rs.  20,000/- for second offence shall be realised from the defaulters and for subsequent offence, trade permit shall be cancelled.
