Mokokchung celebrates successful conclusion of ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign on Gandhi Jayanti

Mokokchung: AWUM congratulates Mokokchung Swachhata Hi Seva Volunteers for their successful program, emphasizing need to sustain such initiatives in future

The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, initiated by the Prime Minister in September concluded on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. The Culmination Program of Swachhata Hi Seva was organized by Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), and the felicitation of Sanitation Workers took place at MMC Conference Hall on October 2, 2023, with Dr Sentitula IFS, DFO, Mokokchung, as the resource person.

All the sanitary workers under MMC were honoured during the ceremony by the resource person.

Sentitula expressed her gratitude to the sanitary workers for their dedication and efforts in keeping the district clean. Sentitula provided insight into the campaign’s history and emphasized that “Cleanliness is Service,” which should be a heartfelt commitment for everyone. She stated, “Service is humankind,” highlighting the inseparable connection between work and worship.

Addressing the importance of community participation in cleanliness efforts, she asked, “Why do we work? With community participation.” She stressed that the service rendered in our daily lives is also a service to God and should not be lacking when it comes to cleanliness. She encouraged dedication in every task and recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for cleanliness and sanitation on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

Sentitula urged everyone to work together, stating, “We will be happy for a whole lifetime.”

On this occasion, she called upon the gathering to observe Wildlife Week and emphasized the responsibility of Nagas, as tribals closely connected to nature, in conserving and protecting wildlife. She informed the audience about migratory birds like Amul Falcon and their significance for farmers. She concluded with the message, “Give service in truth.”

Kilepchiba, Sanitation Inspector and Nodal Officer for Swachhata League, provided an overview of the journey report and various programs organized under its initiative starting from September 15th. These programs included a briefing by JS, SBM on September 1st, 2023, city registration on the portal from September 4th to 6th, citizen registration from September 12th to 14th, 2023 (with 1,41,582 participants), and the launch of Swachhata Pakhwada and ISL 2.0 on September 15th, 2023, with 1400 registrations from Nagaland. The launch had participation from 18 ward authorities, CMC, City-level Sanitation Committee, SBM Ambassadors, and a pledge led by MB Longkumer, the Convenor of SBM Ambassador, Mokokchung.

Additionally, ISL 2.0 Main Event was launched at ISC on September 18th, 2023, which included events such as Town Hall wall painting, MMC Shopping Complex, 18 Wards, ISC wall painting/Graffiti, and Logos Stickers on Sanitation Trucks. This event saw the participation of 400 volunteers.

During the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir, several events were conducted, including a Medical Camp on September 27th, Dengue awareness, Dog vaccination, and registration, as well as the distribution of PPE to Sanitation Workers. A total of 15 medical staff were engaged for an Eye Camp, benefiting 43 sanitation workers.

Under the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, on 30th September 2023, a Cleanliness Drive was conducted along the NH-way, sweeping from Sungkomen to Sewak, Town Hall Shopping Complex (both inside and outside), Salangtem Market, and all 18 wards, collecting 659.6 kgs of plastic waste. Additionally, a highway sweeping event from AOC to Khensa gate engaged 240 volunteers.

Kilepchiba also announced the results of Citizen Registration among the NE States, with Assam ranking first with 8563 registrations, and Nagaland ranking second with 1400 registrations. In terms of participation, Assam topped among the Northeast states with 71,208 participants in 213 activities, and Nagaland ranked second with 22,247 participants in 64 activities throughout the campaign. On a national level, Maharashtra secured the top position with 1501 activities and 12,65,967 participants, followed by Chattisgarh with 553 activities and 6,58,699 participants. All activities were focused on addressing the issue of Single-use plastic (SUP).
