Mokokchung Battalion under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) in a joint operation with Nagaland Police seized a large consignment of contraband items and foreign-origin cigarettes estimated to be worth over Rs 2.69 crore in Mokokchung Town on 15 January.
The operation was carried out based on prior inputs about the movement of traffickers in possession of contraband items from Kohima to Jorhat via Mokokchung in Civil Truck.
The troops set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post at Dailong Ward astride Mokokchung–Tuli Road and intercepted the suspected truck which was taken to the police station for investigation.
During the check, the team recovered 130 bags of poppy seeds and 50 cartons of foreign cigarettes of Indonesian and Burmese origin along with two carriers.
The entire consignment was seized in situ and the individuals were handed over to the police for further investigation.
