Mokokchung District GBs Association holds general meeting, elects new office bearers

The Mokokchung District GBs Association (MDGBA) held its general meeting at the MDGBA Hall on Tuesday. The meeting was graced by Vitolu, EAC Mokokchung, who attended as the special guest on behalf of Deputy Commissioner Thsuvisie Phoji.

Speaking at the gathering, the EAC highlighted the legacy of GBs, stating that they were an institution introduced by the British in India. He noted that the British administration found the GBs sincere, obedient, and dedicated in their service. Emphasizing their key responsibilities, he outlined their role in revenue collection, judiciary and executive functions, and rural policing. He further stated that as representatives of the state government, GBs shoulder significant responsibilities and urged them to continue their cooperation and coordination in governance.

Earlier, Ao Senden President Marsanen Imsong delivered a brief exhortation, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of GBs to society. He also emphasized the need for GBs to continue playing a role in resolving the Naga political issue, as they have done in the past.

During the meeting, a new team of office bearers for the tenure 2025-2030 was elected. The newly elected office bearers are:

President: Along Jamir (Tongdentsuyong Ward, Mokokchung) – re-elected

Vice President: Imtisanen (Chuchuyimpang)

General Secretary: Imlitemsu (Penli Ward) – re-elected

Assistant General Secretary: Temsutoshi (Changtongya Town) – re-elected

Finance Secretary: Temjennungba (Yimyu Ward) – re-elected

Treasurer: Tsuktimongba (Tongdentsuyong Ward, Mokokchung) – re-elected

Along Jamir, GB and President of MDGBA, delivered the welcome address, while R. Chuba, GB and President of Japukong GB Union, pronounced the invocation. Reports, including the Secretary’s report, Audit report, and Nominating report, were presented during the meeting. Delegates from all the ranges of the Ao region participated in the meeting.
