Mokokchung district launches “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign in grand ceremony

Mokokchung: DC acknowledged achievements of Col. Imliakum, recipient of Shaurya Chakra Award

In a splendid display of unity and patriotism, the Launching Programme of the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign took place today at Ongpangkong (North) Block, marked by a series of impactful events that celebrated the essence of India’s identity and its connection with nature.

Dr. Sentitula IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Mokokchung, delivered an inspiring keynote address, emphasizing the significance of the campaign for Mokokchung district and the entire nation. She underscored India’s position as the world’s largest democracy and fastest-growing economy, while highlighting Nagaland’s abundance of natural resources and the unique provisions of Article 371 (A) of the Indian Constitution.

The district’s impressive forest cover of 73.19%, far surpassing the national average. Dr. IFS also traced the origins of the “Meri Maati Mera Desh” campaign back to March 12, 2021, initiated by the Government of India to commemorate 75 years of independence through the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The campaign’s culminating event, set for August 15, 2023, involves the planting of 75 trees in all 88 villages and four towns of Mokokchung District, followed by further celebrations at the town and state levels until August 30.

Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, expressed his gratitude to the enthusiastic participants, applauding their active engagement as exemplary citizens of India. Phoji celebrated the district’s proud history, acknowledging the achievements of Col. Imliakum from Mokokchung village, a recipient of the Shaurya Chakra Award, India’s third-highest gallantry award. The Deputy Commissioner hailed Col. Imliakum as a “true son of the soil of Mokokchung” and honoured the numerous brave hearts from the district who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

The “Meri Maati Mera Desh” launch ceremony featured a series of significant events, including the Dedication of Shilaphalakam, Felicitation of Veeron ka Vandan, Panch Pran Pledge with Mitti, Hoisting of the National Flag, and the soul-stirring singing of the National Anthem.

Wapang Kichu, VCC Mokokchung Village, delivered a succinct speech, while Rev. Imti, Pastor of Mokokchung Village Baptist Church, offered an invocation, setting the spiritual tone for the event. Imyapangla, Project Officer DRDA, Mokokchung, capably chaired the proceedings.
