The monthly District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting for Mokokchung District was held at DC’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung on February 13 under the chairmanship of MLA, Nuklutoshi Longkumer.
The proceedings began on a solemn note, with Chairman Longkumer leading the house in expressing deep condolences to Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, following the untimely demise of his mother.
Following a review of the previous meeting’s minutes, the board deliberated on several critical local issues.
The board approved the proposal for the construction of a retaining wall at New Market, Arkong Ward. This matter will be forwarded to the State Level Planning Department for further consultation.
In anticipation of the upcoming Dr T Ao Trophy, the house addressed the urgent need for road repairs from Sewak Gate to the Rempukong Astroturf ground. It was decided that the matter would be taken up with the DC of Tuensang and National Highways authorities to ensure an early solution.
A significant milestone was reached for the Luyong area as the board approved the upgradation of Mary Mead Government Middle School to a Government High School. The proposal will be forwarded to the Education Department for final action.

The meeting featured a PowerPoint presentation by Shisalen Riju, a coaching centre initiative supported by the DPDB. The management team highlighted the progress and successful achievements of the centre in supporting local students. Additionally, the Water Resources Department provided an overview of their ongoing departmental activities and projects within the district.
The meeting concluded with a focused discussion on wildlife and environmental conservation. Members urged the public and various departments to take proactive, positive steps toward preserving the district’s rich biodiversity and protecting local wildlife.
