The Land Owners’ Board (Ungma, Mokokchung and Khensa) have resolved to ban the Urban Local Body (ULB) election in their jurisdiction till the government amends the Nagaland Municipal Act (NMA) 2001.
During the general meeting of the board on 16 March, ‘it reaffirmed its earlier resolution to strongly stand against the ULB election until and unless the state government rectify/amend all sections and clauses regarding land and building tax under Nagaland Municipal Act 2001’.
The indigenous land-holding rights of the Ao’s which has been secured through the blood and toil of our ancestors is safeguarded by Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution. These rights will not be compromised in any manner whatsoever, it added.
