In a devastating incident that occurred on Thursday, 3rd August, between 3:00 – 3:30 pm, a local taxi tragically plunged down a steep slope along the Mariani road in Yimyu Ward, between IOC Kumlong ward and Khensa Village resulting in the loss of one life.

Upon receiving news of the incident around 3:30 pm, the Mokokchung Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rushed to the scene to conduct investigations and provide assistance. The victim was identified as Makensangba from Khensa Village, permanently residing at Kongrokong, Khensa Village and the authorities confirmed that he was the lone occupant of the van according to CCTV footage obtained from the NRL fuel station located at Yimyu Ward.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident, with preliminary findings. However, conclusive evidence is yet to be obtained.
Concerned locals from Kichutip ward and IOC areas also rushed to the scene to offer assistance but sadly discovered that the individual involved had already succumbed to the mishap.
The village council and eyewitnesses have cooperated with the police, confirming that there were no other passengers onboard the local taxi. They assured the authorities of their continued support and pledged to report any village members who might be missing.
As the investigation is ongoing, and further updates are awaited from the authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.
