The Chungtia Students’ Union organised a candlelight vigil on Thursday evening to condemn the brutal murder of late Imkongchiba Kichu and to appeal for justice as Mokokchung’s Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate imposed restrictions in 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency.
The lifeless body of the deceased was recovered on Wednesday after he was abducted by unknown persons the previous evening.
Students from the village held candles and placards that read “WE WANT THOROUGH INVESTIGATION FOR THIS KILLING”, “VIOLENCE IS NOT THE ANSWER” and “WE WANT JUSTICE”.
The Chungtia Students’ Union also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung requesting for unbiased investigation into the “coldblooded murder of an innocent son”.
The union stated that the act has “caused great unrest among the entire villagers at large and the bereaved family in particular” and appealed for justice.

Meanwhile, reliable sources have informed that the companion of the deceased was safe and secure.
Source also disclosed that a complaint on the abduction of the victim was received by the police around 10:30 pm on 21 February and the police personnel had promptly initiated a search operation.
Reliable sources further added that case has been registered at Mokokchung Police Station II and a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mokokchung along with three others, has been setup to probe the case.
A police official who did not want to disclose his identity said that it cannot be “ascertain as election related incident or others since the case is under investigation.”

Meanwhile, Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS has “in the interest of maintaining peace and tranquility in the area comprising 28-Koridang Assembly” imposed partial restrictions in the areas falling under the constituency on Thursday.
Under the order, the assembly of five or more persons and vehicular movement of non-essential nature from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM in the areas of 28-Koridang Assembly Constituency are prohibited with immediate effect.
However, the Officials and staff of District Administration, Security Personnel, Magistrate on Duty, Medical personnel and persons engaged in election duty/essential services shall be exempted. All movement of commercial vehicles (goods/passengers) or vehicles carrying essential commodities, Press & Media, Telecom services, Medical emergencies shall also be exempted from above restrictions. Further, election campaign events with prior permission of Returning Officer shall be exempted, the order stated.
The restrictions will remain till 3 March 2023.
