Mokokchung: NCC holds workshop on career in Armed Forces cum enrolment of cadets for 2023-24 at MGHSS

Mokokchung: A large number of the attendees expressed interest in choosing Armed Forces as a career option during the interaction with the resource persons

A career guidance workshop was held in Mayangnokcha Government HSS, Mokokchung under the aegis of 25 Naga Bn NCC, Mokokchung on 11 April 2023. The event coincided with the fresh enrolment of NCC cadets for the training year, 2023-24. 100 students from the 9th, 10th and 11th grades including NCC cadets attended the workshop.

S Lipokienla Imchen, Senior Principal inaugurated the half-day workshop and welcomed the resource persons to the event. She termed the event as a unique initiative by the NCC authorities to provide career guidance to the students even when they are at the High School level so that they can choose a career goal early in life and start working towards nurturing the same throughout their academic pursuit. This will also help them in having a long-term, focused approach and successfully avoiding distractions.

Col CST Swamy, Commanding Officer, 25 Naga Bn NCC explained the way of life in the Armed Forces and the advantages of joining the forces as an officer through a PowerPoint presentation and motivational videos about the Army, Navy, and Airforce. The starting gross pay of an officer is more than Rs 1 lakh along with several allowances and facilities. Entitled rations, travel concessions, canteen facilities, pensions, and free medical facilities for themselves and dependents in state-of-the-art Military Hospitals, Army schools, and professional colleges are some of the highlights of the facilities that can be enjoyed by the officers and their dependents.

He also informed the audience about the availability of several sports and athletics facilities as well as adventure activities like mountaineering, white water rafting, rock climbing, sailing, para jumping, hot air ballooning, etc. The forces promote the culture of regular sports activities and encourage the officers to excel in all aspects of life.

Entry into the three services at the 10+2 level is through ‘National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Exam by UPSC followed by Services Selection Board Interview and a medical test. Once selected, the candidates undergo three years of training in the National Defence Academy and are awarded a BA/BSc degree followed by one year’s training in the specific establishments of the Army /Navy/Airforce before being commissioned as officers. For those from Science and Mathematics stream, a ‘Technical Entry Scheme’ into Indian Army is also available where the trainees graduate with a B.Tech degree before becoming officers.

A large number of the attendees expressed interest in choosing Armed Forces as a career option during the interaction with the resource persons. They admitted that they were not aware of such a highly enriching and well-paid career opportunity before.

The event came to an end with a vote of thanks by Second Officer Tialiba. Hav Dharamveer Shekhawat and Hav Rupa Ram of 25 Naga Bn NCC, Mokokchung carried out the coordination for the event.
