Mokokchung: TB elimination highlighted at DPDB meeting

Mokokchung District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting was held on 20 October, at the DC’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung, under the chairmanship of MLA & Chairman, DPDB Mokokchung, Imkong L Imchen.

The Department of Health & Family Welfare gave a PowerPoint presentation on TB Elimination and reported that in Mokokchung, presently, there are 185 TB patients. The Health &Family Welfare officials urged the members to come forward with every possible help, saying that it is only through collective efforts that TB can be eradicated.

In the presentation, the department highlighted that the Government of India has committed to end TB by 2025, five years before the global target under Sustainable Development Goals. With India accounting for one fourth of the global TB burden i.e., 27 lakh out of 1 crore, the National Strategic Plan (NSP) sets out strategic direction and key initiatives of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the elimination of TB by 2025.

NI-KSHAY 2.0, a digital platform for community support for the persons with TB was also highlighted in the presentation. Under Ni-kshay, the objectives are to provide additional patient support to improve treatment outcome, Augment community involvement in meeting India’s commitment to end TB and Leverage Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) opportunities.

Of the total number of TB patients receiving treatment in Mokokchung district, 174 TB patients have consented to receiving community support whereas 83 TB patients are supported by Ni-kshay Mitra.

Report on Livelihood Project taken up by DPDB under LADP (Common Pool) 2021-2022, was also presented to the house. The five-member committee, headed by the Deputy Commissioner, stated that the Project was taken up by Brooding & Distributing of 10,000 no. of 14 days old Broiler Chicks to 100 beneficiaries (SHGs and Individuals) covering all 10 Constituencies. During the six-week exercise, the team inspected and monitored the beneficiaries in four-phases. The success story of the Livelihood Project taken up by DPDB Mokokchung, reported that total investment was 10 Lakhs and total turnover of the beneficiaries was 22 Lakhs 10 thousand. Livelihood Project Best Farmer Award was given to Moatemsu from Aonglenden Constituency.

In the meeting, shifting of the present NST Office and all Public Transport Buses (Both Government & Private) to ISBT Khensa was discussed. During discussion, MLA & Chairman DPDB Mokokchung, Imkong L Imchen maintained that the issue is genuine and has been discussed on many occasions. The Board also reviewed the last meeting minutes.
