A “Millets Recipe Contest” was held at the Ton Council Hall in Mon on Thursday as part of the special event titled “Rediscovering Millets in Nagaland: Eat Millets-Stay Healthy, The Future Super Food for India” organized by the District Agriculture Office (DAO), Mon, DIPR informed.
This event highlighted the significance of millet as more than just food, emphasizing its role as a combination of nutrition and health. The objective of the event was to promote the usage of millet in cooking and to showcase its potential as a smart and nutritious food choice.
Keneisezo Punyü, District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Mon, delivered a speech on the importance of the “International Year of Millets.” The competition was judged by Heads of Offices from the Agriculture and Allied Departments. These judges also engaged in an interactive session with the participants, sharing insights and knowledge about millets.
Members of several self-help groups (SHGs) and 70 enthusiastic women were a part of the event. The participants’ recipes were evaluated based on eight different parameters, and winners were selected based on the judges’ scores. The DAO, Mon, presented prizes to the deserving winners.
The event was chaired by AO Mon, Daniel Konyak, and aimed to encourage the incorporation of millets into daily diets for improved health and nutrition.
