The Konyak Union, the Longchang Village Students’ Union and the Longchang Area Students’ Union has on Wednesday urged the law enforcement agencies to conduct swift, thorough, transparent and impartial investigation into the death of late Longshang Konyak of Longching Village who was shot dead at Metsüben Resort in Chuchuyimpang village, Mokokchung allegedly by an affluent personality.

The Konyak Union said that it was deeply dismayed and saddened by the heinous and brutal killing of Late Longshang Konyak. “This act of violence has left us bewildered and shocked, as the alleged perpetrator is a well-known personality, a former NPF candidate, and the current President of the NPF Mokokchung division,” KU President Tingthok Konyak and Nokzei P Konyak, Press & Media Secretary stated.
The apex body of the Konyak community informed that as per its sources, the deceased was the caretaker of the Metsüben Resort which is owned by the accused, Moasangba Jamir and conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family members.
KU strongly urged the law enforcement agencies “to swiftly and thoroughly investigate this incident and ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice, facing the full force of the law. No matter the circumstances or the person involved, no one has the authority to take another person’s life with impunity.”
Further, the Konyak Union also demanded that the victim’s family be provided compensation stating that the “act of restitution will help bring some measure of closure to the grieving family.”

In a press release, Longchang Village Students’ Union President, Meiwang, and General Secretary, S Pongkhen, condemned “the recent and horrific killing of an innocent man Late Longshang Konyak a father of three children”. The tragic incident that unfolded is not just a heartbreaking event, but it is a grievous affront to the values, principles, and the very essence of humanity itself. LVSU added.
“The unjust taking of an innocent life is a heinous act that leaves a stain on our collective conscience,” the Union stated, adding that the incident was a stark reminder that there are individuals who wield power and authority with reckless abandon, causing irrevocable harm to the lives of innocent people.
LVSU also said that the incident was emblematic of the larger issues surrounding accountability, human rights, and the fundamental duty of our institutions to protect the innocent. The Union further appealed to the law enforcing agency to ensure that a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation is conducted into this incident. “Justice must be served swiftly and without compromise, and those responsible for this heinous act must be held accountable for their actions,” it stated.
The Longchang Area Students’ Union, in its statement, condemned the “brutal killing” at Metsüben Resort and urged the appropriate authorities to investigate the matter with utmost priority and action be taken upon the culprit as per the law of the land.
LASU President T S Pongchi and General Secretary K Methnyei expressed solidarity with the deceased’s family and “will extend any kind of support physically and mentally when needed.”
