Mon district in Nagaland has been selected as one of the 100 Aspirational Agricultural Districts to be developed under the newly approved Prime Minister Mum Dhannya Krishi Yojna (PMDDKY), Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has informed.
In an official communication to Supongmeren Jamir, MP (Lok Sabha), the Union Minister shared that the ambitious six-year programme, announced in the Union Budget 2025–26 and cleared by the Union Cabinet on July 16, 2025, is set to be formally launched in October 2025.
Chauhan stated that 100 Aspirational Agricultural District have been identified based on three key indicators of low crop productivity, low cropping intensity and less short term credit disbursement.
“I am happy to share that the district of Mon has been selected under your Lok Sabha constituency in the state of Nagaland,” Chouhan stated in the letter, expressing hope that the project will significantly enhance the agricultural profile of the district.
The PMDDKY aims to enhance agricultural productivity, increase adoption of crop diversification and sustainable agricultural practices, augment post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block levels, improve litigation facilities and facilitate availability of long-term and short-term credit, the Union Minister stated adding, the scheme would proactively address all the gaps identified in selected districts by converging the existing schemes of Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) and other allied Ministries/Departments and also in partnership with the States.

He further informed that there would be committees formed at District, State and National level for effective planning, implementation and monitoring.
“The District Committee under the District Collector is the key, as it will prepare district action plan in consultation with stakeholders and implementation of the scheme. The performance or the scheme in the district will be monitored through a dashboard with defined Key Performance Indicators,” he stated.
The Union Minister expressed confidence that Supongmeren Jamir’s leadership would enable the district authorities and officials under your jurisdiction for the smooth implementation of PMDDKY, within the State.
In this regard, he informed that necessary instructions, operational guidelines etc. are also being issued separately by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare to all Chief Secretaries of the States.
He looked forward to work in close coordination with Nagaland MP and state authorities for making PMDDKY a grand success.
