A new academic building was inaugurated at Wangkhao Government College in Mon today.
The building was constructed under the initiative of the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) in collaboration with the District Administration, KGOU and Konyak Civil Societies.
Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Mon, was the special guest of the programme and inaugurated the new academic building by cutting the ribbon.
In his speech, he said it was a privilege to be a part of the event and congratulated the KSU, KGOU, KNSK, the principal of Wangkhao College and the civil societies for the collective responsibility taken to construct the building.

He said it is a good example if everyone comes together irrespective of differences and in respect of the laws, duties and responsibilities because development, well-being and welfare cannot be divided.

Mannon, legal adviser to KNSK, spoke on behalf of the KNSK president and extended her heartfelt gratitude to the citizens of Mon headed by DC Mon who, she said, has immensely and generously contributed towards the upliftment and building of the college building, particularly the new academic building.
She said the students had faced hardships during the past year due to lack of accommodation, and in view of this problem, the civil societies headed by DC Mon and the principal of Wangkhao College had put in immense effort to have the new building made.

Mannon further mentioned that Wangkhao College is one the oldest colleges and also the lone college in Mon District which has produced many eminent leaders. She thanked the principal, professors and assistant professors for imparting quality education upon children which, she said, has prospered in many ways. She expressed her hopes and prayers that in the coming days, the college would expand with Science and Commerce streams, and that it would continue to shine and produce university toppers and gold medallists in the coming days.
Tingthok, president of Konyak Union, said if everyone united together, everything will be possible. He also mentioned that after the completion of the unfinished work, they would also look towards making a canteen. He concluded his speech by thanking everyone.

T Noklem Konyak, president of KSU, gave the vote of thanks. He began his speech by stating that the building work began on 29 July 2022. He briefly highlighted the background of Wangkhao College, mentioning that the establishment of the college was initiated by the Konyak Students’ Union. Therefore, KSU considers the college as their eldest son, he said.
Konyak pointed out that every year the same problem is faced by the college, especially during admissions due to limited space and manpower.
He expressed his gratitude and appreciation towards DC Mon, KGOU, civil societies and the pastor for rendering their support in making the dream come true.
The inaugural programme was chaired by C Daniel Roumon, Deputy Speaker KSU. The invocation was pronounced by Ahat, pastor of Papong Fellowship. The welcome address was by Dr T Chandrashekaran, principal of Wangkhao College.
The programme concluded with a mass prayer.
