The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has in its effort to promote “ease of living of residents”, issued an order that will give citizens access to 58 services online without having to visit the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Citizens can avail these online services by simply authenticating the Aadhaar.
MoRTH has clarified that using the online service is voluntary and that the RTO will continue to provide in-person services like before. Citizens who do not have Aadhaar numbers can avail the same services in physical form by submitting alternative documents physically to prove their identities.
The online services made available online in the interest of good governance include application of driving license, changes of credentials, renewal of conductor license, issue of international driving license, retention of registration number, etc.
The order, issued on 16 September, will reduce the footfall at the RTOs and lead to greater efficiency in their functioning. These services can be availed through the portal https://parivahan.gov.in/parivahan/ or mParivahan application (app).
