Union Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, Skill Development, Electronics & Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar visited Zunheboto District on 26 September, becoming the first union minister to do so in a span of four decades.
Chandrasekhar, who is currently on a three-day tour of Nagaland, reached this hilly town, after a nine-hour journey by road from Dimapur.
During his maiden visit, the union minister had meetings and interactions with District Karyakartas, Departmental Heads, Civil Society organizations and the beneficiaries of schemes. He also visited Sümi Baptist Church Zunheboto (SBCZ), Asia’s largest church.
In his meeting with district administration officials, Rajeev Chandrasekhar said district authorities should find out the aspirations of the local youths and involve educational institutions in the skill development.
“Our emphasis should be making optimum use of local resources and reduce migration to urban centres,” he said.
The union minister while speaking on agriculture and handicrafts said, “structural issues should be looked at by the state government, try to connect the entrepreneurs to the market, and create an atmosphere for the investors”.
The minister also reviewed the implementation of Central government schemes and urged the functionaries to work zealously until the last mile is covered, every voice is heard, and every grievance is addressed as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Chandrasekhar also sat down with representatives from Sümi Hoho, GB’s Hoho, All Sümi Students’ Union or Sümi Kiphimi Küqhakulu (SKK), and Sümi Kükami Hoho (SKH).
Sümi Hoho, on behalf of the public, urged the minister for upgradation of infrastructure at Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu and setting up of a new campus of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) while also upgrading the existing ITI in Zunheboto.
The president of Sümi Hoho, I Nikheto Zhimo, also appealed to the union minister to speed up the Naga political solution as is the aspiration of every Naga.
The union minister assured to meet the demands placed by the Sümi Hoho in terms of technical demands. He, however, said that the Naga political issue was beyond his pay scale.
Chandrasekhar shared his optimism on Nagaland and Nagas. He said Nagaland has a lot of potential for investors provided the atmosphere remains peaceful.
Later in the afternoon, he left for Wokha, where he attended a series of meetings with district officials, social workers, business community representatives, apart from the Elders of the Longsa Council Hall and functionaries of Lotha Hoho and Eloe Hoho.
