Easter Konyak from Tizit Village, Mon District was awarded the most inspiring placement under the SHG Women achiever’s, during the International Women’s Day 2024 celebration on March 8 at The Heritage.

The award was facilitated under the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM). Konyak is a Beauty Therapist at Headmaster Salon, Surat, Gujarat India.

Easter Konyak is the youngest among three the siblings, with her father working as a daily wage earner and her mother a homemaker. It became difficult for Konyak’s parents to support her academic studies after her 8th standard, hence she could not pursue her education. The financial condition of her family always bothered her, so when Konyak learnt about Pinnacle Skills implementing DDUGKY scheme and its benefit, she was convinced to join.

Although she had a hard time convincing her parents, somehow her mother supported her to join for training and she completed her Assistant Beauty Therapist course in the year 2019.

After successful completion of her training, Easter got her first job at R3 Naturals Pvt. Ltd. As a Beauty Therapist receiving a Salary of Rs.12,000 in Uttarakhand. However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic compelled her to leave her job and return home.

Later, Konyak joined Tattva Spa in the year 2022. Currently, she is working at Headmaster’s salon, Surat, Gujarat as Therapist with a monthly salary of Rs.25,000. Today, Konyak’s income helps her to financially support her parents and siblings back home.

Easter expresses that instead of wasting her time in the village where there are limited opportunities for a school dropout, she is glad that she took up the training and is able to financially support her parents. She is thankful to Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission, Govt. of Nagaland and Ministry of Rural Development for giving opportunities and impacting independence for rural youth.

In her own words, “Get skilled and make yourself self-reliant & independent.”
