The Department of Zoology, Mount Everest College, in collaboration with the Directorate of Sericulture, Government of Nagaland, successfully organised a one-day workshop on “Rearing of Silkworm” at the Smart Hall, Mount Everest College, Senapati, Manipur on July 11. The workshop was conducted as a follow-up to the MoU signed between the Directorate of Sericulture, and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Mount Everest College.
District Sericulture Officer Kohima, Vilhousienuo Khro delivered a comprehensive keynote lecture on silkworm rearing, highlighting Nagaland’s progress in Muga Silk Development under the Silk Samagra schemes. She elaborated on the life cycle of eri and other silkworm varieties, their products, and associated benefits.
An interactive session followed the lecture, during which students and faculty members raised questions related to eri silk consumption, its health benefits, available training programmes, and marketing aspects. These were effectively addressed by the keynote speaker.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Lishine, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, expressing gratitude to the Directorate of Sericulture and the IQAC, Mount Everest College, for their continued collaboration since the MoU was signed in September 2024. The session was moderated by Laziine Caryn, a 3rd-semester student of the Zoology Department, and the welcome address was delivered by L. Lungshila, Head of the Department of Zoology.
Attended by the Principal, faculty members, and students of the Zoology Department, the workshop not only promoted awareness of sericulture practices and sustainable livelihood opportunities in the region but also supported the students in pursuing the Value Addition Course as per the NEP syllabus under the UG Zoology Programme.
