Mount Tiyi College celebrates 48th Freshers’ Social cum Annual Day, MLA Kikon graces event

Wokha: Sorenthung Ezung, Class of 2023, gets Late Mhondamo Kithan Memorial Award for outstanding academic record

Mount Tiyi College, Wokha celebrated its 48th Freshers’ Social cum Annual Day at the college’s Badminton Stadium on Thursday with 40 Bhandari A/C MLA, Achumbemo Kikon as the special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Kikon congratulated the freshers as well enlightened the students about his past experience as a college student. He also encouraged the students to have a good and positive mindset, as mindset determines the outcome of our result.

Comparing the old education course to the new one, he advised the students to take it easy and score higher academically as with the new semester system their courses are not very vast.

He also emphasised that government colleges have very qualified teaching faculties and urged the students to be disciplined, maintain a good attitude as that will determine their future. Lastly, Kikon expressed disappointment at the present election system and how power of money plays a huge role during elections.

Earlier, Principal of Mount Tiyi College Dr Bweyhunle Khing, in her welcome address, notified that the college now has 300 students enrolled with a total of 145 new students. The Principal also stated that the college focuses on making their students academically good as well as moulding them to be good human beings and successful professionals. She further stated that the college is set to introduce extra-curricular activities like skill development, hospitality and management, tailoring and basic computer classes.

The program was chaired by Dr W Meribeni Patton Asst. Professor, Department of English while ‘Words of Wisdom’ was delivered by Dr K Z Ovung, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Economics. Vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Roland K Kikon, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Economics.

Late Mhondamo Kithan Memorial Award was presented by Dr Medongunuo Ngone, Asst. Professor, Dept. of English to Sorenthung Ezung, Graduate Student of 2023, Mount Tiyi College for consistently performing well in his academic session from 1st till 6th semester securing a good percentage. The award was sponsored by Lt. Mhondamo Kithan’s family.

Yironthung Kikon, B.A third Semester, hosted the Mr & Miss Freshers Contest where Tekatong Longkhumre and Shanchobeni Lotha were crowned Mr and Miss Freshers Mount Tiyi College 2023.
