A meeting of the State Level Consultative Committee (SLCC) of the Food Corporation of India (FCI), chaired by MP (Rajya Sabha) and chairperson of the FCI-SLCC, S Phangnon Konyak was held on July 11 at Hotel Acacia, Dimapur. The meeting was attended by members of the SLCC, officials from the state Food and Civil Supplies department and the FCI Regional Office Nagaland.
During the meeting, Konyak expressed her appreciation for the FCI for its proactive efforts in embracing digital transformation. It was acknowledged that in the age of Artificial Intelligence, going online is vital to avoid being left behind. The launch and continued functioning of the FCI app and online portal were welcomed, as these initiatives have enhanced transparency in the food distribution system.
She highlighted the consistent availability of food grains in the state of Nagaland and noted that the Government of India has fully met Nagaland’s requirements with sufficient allocation of rice. It was clarified that while FCI primarily handles rice, wheat-based allocations fall under the Social Welfare department.

Konyak also commended the 100% lifting of allocated food grains over the years, a strong indication that both the State Government and FCI have maintained efficiency in the supply chain. Beneficiaries across the state have reportedly been receiving their entitlements as per approved lists, reflecting effective coordination.
The MP also appreciated the functioning of the FCI and emphasized the need to maintain transparency, efficiency, and coordination in the food supply chain to ensure that no beneficiary is left behind.
Participants were encouraged to further disseminate awareness regarding the roles and responsibilities of the department of Food and Civil Supplies. The department’s mandate is to ensure food security through timely transportation and equitable distribution of essential commodities, supported by regular supervision and monitoring of stocks and prices.
An in-depth PowerPoint presentation was delivered covering the objectives and functions of FCI, procurement and distribution systems, various food security schemes, IT initiatives undertaken by FCI, preventive mechanisms in place, FCI operations in the Nagaland Region, and FCI’s overall contribution to ensuring food security in Nagaland
The SLCC also reviewed agendas such as procurement and distribution of foodgrains, quality of foodgrains, storage of foodgrains, transit and storage losses, interface of the FCI with the state government on functioning of the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) including allocation, offtake, and actual distribution of foodgrains for Antyodaya, BPL, and APL families and various central or state welfare schemes, sale and disposal of stocks, and matter referred by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution or FCI.
Queries from the participants were addressed during the session, with representatives from the state government and FCI providing relevant clarifications.
