MP Phangnon urges Mon officers to bridge gap between government and people of district

Mon: DPDB discusses establishing rehabilitation centre to curb drug addictions in the district

Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Phangnon Konyak called on Heads of Offices in Mon to make a difference in their departments during their tenures in the district. Expressing concern that Mon district, being one of the oldest districts in Nagaland, is still lagging in terms of development, the MP asked the officers to be a bridge and mend the gap between the government and the people and help bring the change.

She said this during the Mon District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting held at Angh’s residence, Longwa Village, Mon on Tuesday, DIPR informed.

Also in the meeting, Advisor for Treasuries & Accounts and Chairman of Mon DPDB, Konngam Konyak asked all the Heads of Offices to be stationed regularly and carry out their duties and functions diligently to set an example to their subordinates.

C Noklem Konyak, Chairman, Longwa Village Council, while delivering the welcome note, shared various issues faced by the people of Longwa Village such as the shortage of teachers in the village Government Primary School. He also called for the upgradation of the Helipad to Heliport; Health sub-centre to Primary Health Centre; establishment of one more Government School at Longwa and the improvement of approach road to Longwa Angh’s residence as it is a tourist spot.

The House discussed the proposal for the opening of Little Planet School, Mon Town; setting up of Eklavya Model Residential School at Tobu, and establishment of schools at Yeangmai and Tangkhao village, which were approved and recommended to higher authorities for further necessary actions.

Application for society registration from the Seven Heaven Eco Resort Societies, Tizit, and the Chen Area Volley Ball Association, Chen were received, approved and recommended for necessary actions. Good Samaritan School, Phomching and Police Unit School, Mon seeking for Grant in Aid from the concerned departments were approved and forwarded for necessary actions.

Based on the memorandum submitted received from Konyak Union, the deplorable road conditions within Mon town area was also discussed and forwarded to the concerned department for immediate action.

With the rise of substance abuse and peddlers and its consequence, especially after the Tizit incident, the matter to establish a rehabilitation centre to curb drug addictions in the district was also discussed and the board decided to take up the matter.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS.
