MP SS Jamir, MLA Nienu express sadness over loss of lives at Pherima landslide on NH-29

Kohima: Concerned Department should have looked upon NH- 29 with priority: Azo Nienu

Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), S. Supongmeren Jamir and Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly and Leader of NPF Legislature Party Kuzholuzo Nienu, have expressed sadness over the loss of lives in the tragic landslide on the National Highway-29 at Pherima under Chümoukedima district on 3rd September 2024. Six people, including travellers and workers at the eateries, died in the calamity.

In his message, Jamir offered his condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones. “My sincere thoughts and prayers are with you and may God grant the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he stated. The MP extended solidarity at the hour of pain and sorrow and also prayed for the souls of the departed.

Meanwhile, MLA Kuzholuzo said that he was deeply saddened, anguished and pained over the loss of lives. While extending his condolence to the families of the six deceased, he pressed that compensations should not be delayed.

He also urged that the agencies “to expedite their works to restore the roads for smooth passage so that the panic arising at the moment can be brought back to normalcy.”

In his message, Nienu mentioned that he had raised concerns regarding the ongoing road constructions on NH-29 that has claimed other lives. “The issue is not just relating to road connection and developments taking place but it’s more than that as it’s costing the lives of the people traveling through it which should have been a priority to look upon by the concerned Department,” the MLA said and reiterated that NHIDCL has failed the people of Nagaland again.
