Dr. L Murugan, Union MoS for Information & Broadcasting, Fisheries, Veterinary & Dairying visited Chesezu village in Phek district during his three-day tour to Nagaland. Chesezu village is significant because Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was said to have camped in the village during the World War II.
According to a PIB report, the Union Minister, speaking at a programme with the villagers, said that as part of Modi government’s initiatives to pay tribute to Netaji and Indian National Army (INA) and highlight their sacrifices, the members of INA veterans were part of the 70th Republic Day Parade in 2019 for the first time.
He added that three islands in Andaman & Nicobar Islands have been renamed in honour of Netaji and also, After 75 years of Independence, the statue of Subhash Chandra Bose has been erected at the Kartavaya Path in New Delhi. Murugan also mentioned that the Government celebrated the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji for whole one year under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

At Chesezu village, the Minister also paid a visit to Vezo Swuro who was associated with Netaji during the reported stay in the village.
Later in a post on Twitter, Murugan wrote that it was ‘thrilling’ to hear about the ‘glorious chapter of INA’s march against the imperial Britishers under Netaji’s leadership’ from Swuro, the nanogenarian lone surviving witness of that ‘great event’.
Offered my tributes to the great son of India #Netaji_Subhash_Chandra_Bose from Netaji Peak, Chesezu village, Nagaland.
Netaji had come and camped at this very spot during World War II in 1944, (Battle of Kohima )
