The newly elected Lotha Students’ Union president, Lirhonthung E Kithan, has stressed on the need to check proxy/substitute teachers in government schools in Wokha district in Nagaland.
Talking to Nagaland Tribune, Kithan said that he would like to strengthen the government schools in Wokha district during his tenure (2023-26) and extended the support of the LSU to the School Education Department in checking proxy teachers in the district.
He lamented that the government run schools in Wokha continue to lack behind schools in other districts but expressed hope that collective work can turn things around for the better.

Kithan also stated that the biggest issue being faced in the Lotha society in the present day is the drugs menace. He said that the problem needs to be addressed so that lives of student and youths are not destroyed by it.
Before being elected as the president of LSU on 15 March 2023, Lirhonthung E Kithan served as the assistant general secretary of Kohima Lotha Students’ Union from 2017 till 2019 and as president from 2020 till 2022.
“There are many issues and puzzling circumstances prevailing among the Lotha Students. And I myself alone cannot achieve or project those prevailing challenges,” he told Nagaland Tribune, emphasizing that all the executives and members of the students’ body are collectively responsible.
He said he had always believed in Henry Ford’s famous quote, “Coming together is a beginning; Keeping together is progress; Working together is success.”
The students’ leader said that issues and challenges are part and parcel of every human society but exuded confidence that under his leadership and with the guidance from the Almighty God, he and his team will press forward many innovative and modern plans and ideas that will benefit the students community in their careers.
Kithan urged students to avoid drugs and other intoxicants and avoid bad company. He further advised the youths to be respectful to teachers and elders, be humble and above all remember God.
The president of LSU also invited positive ideas, feedbacks and suggestions.
