World Health Day 2024 was observed at Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (NIMSR), Kohima on Monday under the theme “My Health, My Right”.
Speaking on the occassion, Dr Ganesh Shanmugasundaram Anusuya, Professor and Head of Department, Community Medicine, NIMSR, Kohima stated that this year’s theme was chosen to champion the right of everyone, everywhere to have access to quality health services as well as education and information on the rights to safe drinking water, clean air, good nutrition, quality housing, decent working and environmental conditions, and freedom from discrimination.
Dr Anusuya also highlighted that one should be aware of their rights when it comes to health reminded all to take care of their health.
Dr Soumya Chakraborty, Director cum Dean, NIMSR, Kohima in the welcome address highlighted that this year’s theme mainly talks about the importance of knowing the responsibilities of self care. She added that individuals are encouraged to take ownership of their health through activities such as exercise, nutrition, meditation, social engagement, and environmental stewardship.
The vote of thanks was pronounced by Dr Longna, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry, NIMSR.
The program was followed by Nationwide Quiz Competition for MBBS Students under the aegis of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine with support of TAPSM, North East State Chapter.
Dr Anusuya was the State Co-ordinator for Nagaland for this World Health Day Quiz, and Dr Jurimoni Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, was the Nodal Officer.
The winners of the competition were: Nenghoikim Khongsai, Yomei L Konyak and N Leai Shongdok while Thsaropila Sangtam, Menumeu T. Mero and Thungbeni A Jami got Runners Up.
