Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, NCS (Retd) MLA and Chairman of the District Planning and Development Board, Wokha, launched the book ‘The Art of Politics: A Prelude’ authored by N. Yanpothung Ezung, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology at Bailey Baptist College, Wokha, during the inauguration event of Tokhϋ Emong cum Mini Hornbill at the Public Ground, Wokha, on 4th November 2024.

N Yanpothung Ezung has said that this book is an introduction to his forthcoming works, structured into 15 chapters that explore various elements of politics, from foundational concepts to the personal growth of politicians. “Politics requires skillful vision, empathy, and practical judgement,” he stated while justifying the title of his book.

When asked about key themes, Ezung emphasized the importance of integrity in politics. He noted, “Politics is often perceived as dirty, but my book aims to highlight the essential role of integrity.” He aimed to offer a grounded perspective, focusing less on philosophical theories and more on practical insights often overlooked in mainstream political discourse, particularly grassroots campaigning strategies.

The author affirmed the book’s relevance to readers in Nagaland, stating that understanding human nature is critical in politics. “We must start from integrity,” he remarked, stressing the need for a deeper understanding of the conditions affecting people’s lives.

Reflecting on the challenges faced while writing, Ezung mentioned that he is not from a political background and described his journey as a bold step toward explaining politics. He expressed the challenge of maintaining a balanced narrative that reflects both grassroots experiences and broader political realities.

Regarding the uniqueness of his book, Ezung noted, “Many political theory books focus on abstract concepts, while mine addresses ground realities.” He believes his work will help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Ezung hopes the book will inspire readers to engage with new ideas, although he acknowledged that the impact would depend on individual openness to absorbing the content.

When asked about future publications, Ezung shared that he plans to write at least two more books following this one, although he could not provide a specific timeline for their release.

While uncertain about the book’s market performance, Ezung reiterated that the primary aim of his writing is to share knowledge rather than to generate sales. “It’s about bringing people together through understanding politics,” he said.

“The Art of Politics: A Prelude” is available online through platforms such as Flipkart, and Amazon. For those in Wokha, copies can be found at local bookstalls. The book is expected to be soon available in Kohima and Dimapur.
