On February 1, Nagaland’s Power & Parliamentary Affairs Minister, K.G. Kenye, marked his presence at the 77th General Conference of the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) in Losami village, Phek district. Serving as the inaugural guest, Minister Kenye delivered an insightful address acknowledging the historical significance of the union.
Minister Kenye highlighted the pivotal role of the Chakhesang Students Union, previously known as Chakhesang Students Conference, as the foundational organization within the community. He emphasized the union’s past responsibilities and its instrumental role in shaping the apex tribal body of the community.
Sharing observations on the societal evolution and significant progress over time, Kenye acknowledged the community’s continuous efforts to adapt and stay in sync with the changing global landscape. “Nagas have integrated seamlessly into society, becoming integral pillars of our Naga community,” said Kenye citing the interconnectedness of Nagas with other tribes, states, and international boundaries, known as “Pan Nagas.”
Highlighting the challenges endured by the Nagas throughout history, Kenye noted their ability to carve their destiny despite a complex past. “The Naga community possesses untapped human resources and gifts, yet to be fully realized,” viewed Kenye. He also acknowledged the Naga people’s natural gifts in topography, geography, and their resilience to natural calamities and widespread diseases within Naga inhabited areas.
Despite the abundant natural gifts, Kenye expressed concern over the Naga peoples’ socio-political struggles and highlighted limitations in education and intellectual development. He noted a tendency to react negatively to situations rather than approaching them with understanding and comprehension.
Recognizing Nagaland as one of the most literate states in the country, Kenye urged students to honor and appreciate the sacrifices made by their parents and guardians.
