Naga girl’s innovation wins INSPIRE Award – MANAK in New Delhi

New Delhi: The 9th NLEPC had attracted 6.53 Lakh ideas and innovations from all States and UTs of the country

Temsujungla Jamir, a student of Mayangnokcha Govt Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung, was awarded with the annual INSPIRE Awards – MANAK for her innovation. She received the honour from Union Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh at the 9th National Level Exhibition and Project Competition (NLEPC) held in New Delhi from 14-16 September.

Her innovation – a casava grinding machine – placed her among the top 60 innovators from across the country. Two more students from Nagaland Lanuchetla Jamir and Alemtula Jamir also participated in the competition. The team who accompanied the girls to New Delhi included Lanukala I Jamir, Reader, SCERT, Liaison Officer and Daniel Thong Seb, Associate Professor SCERT & Nodal Officer for INSPIRE MANAK.

The 9th NLEPC had attracted 6.53 Lakh ideas and innovations from all States and UTs of the country.

The Union Minister informed that out of 6.53 lakhs, a total of 53,021 students were identified for financial support of Rs 10,000 each so that they could develop prototypes of the ideas which they submitted for the scheme. These innovators will be extended complete incubation support for their entrepreneurship journey.

A total of 556 students have made their way to NLEPC after competing at respective District Level Exhibition and Project Competition (DLEPC’s) and State Level Exhibition and Project Competition (SLEPC’s).

Dr Jitendra Singh at the award ceremony described the 556 students as the country’s most promising scientists, researchers, scholars and an overall group of science and technology talent in the making.

Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) – MANAK (Million Minds Augmenting National Aspiration and Knowledge) is a flagship scheme jointly implemented by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, and the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) – India, an autonomous body of the DST.

The basic objective of INSPIRE is to create excitement for creative science in the youths of the country of creative pursuit of science to attract talent to the study of science at an early age and thus build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening and expanding the Science & Technology system and R & D base.
