The Naga Hoho has welcomed the decision of the NSCN-IM to resume talks once again with the Government of India.
Naga Hoho General Secretary Elu Ndang, speaking to Nagaland Tribune, stated that talks cannot be kelp in stalemate and the resumption of talk between NSCN IM and GoI is very much urgent.
“We are happy that the Naga negotiators have agreed once again to resume the talks,” said Ndang.
The general secretary was of the view that if we are to look for a peaceful settlement, the basis of the settlement should be based on the Framework Agreement; any deviation from the agreement could lead to further problems. He said the signing of the Framework Agreement in 2015 speaks for itself – the agreement was signed after several rounds of negotiations and confidence building measures.
Ndang is also hopeful that with the resumption of talks, the GoI and the NSCN-IM will arrive at a breakthrough on the contentious issue of a separate flag and constitution (Yezhabo) which the NSCN-IM has been persistent on its demand.
“This is a negotiation. The GoI has taken its own position and so also the Naga negotiators but we still believe that through this negotiation, there will be a meeting point. In any negotiation there cannot be any hard and fast road. Therefore, there has to be a meeting ground and we look forward that with this latest development of resumption of talks, they will be able to find out a meeting point,” Ndang said.
