Naga Students’ Union Mumbai holds 13th Annual Literary and cultural meet

Mumbai: North Mumbai team wins title of overall team champion of Annual Naga Student Union Literary and Cultural Meet

The Naga Students’ Union Mumbai conducted its 13th Annual Naga Student Union Literary and Cultural Meet on 17th April 2024 at Mumbai University under the theme ‘IDEATE, CREATE & INNOVATE’. The event highlighted a rich roster of competition for students to showcase their literary and educational power along the lines of Naga culture.

The inaugural session of the annual meet was graced by Dr Johnson Chithung, a seasoned Naga businessman, Dr Rocky Raile, a distinguished professor from IIT Bombay, and Jenithung, a legal officer in IDBI bank. Dr Chithung gave a strong exhortation on the modern world and how the Nagas must evolve with it in an exponential manner.

In its press release, NSUM informed that the battle of words and music included duet singing, group singing, debate and extempore speeches. Participants beautifully conveyed their talents in these and the winners of these competitions demonstrated an array of skills.

South Bombay team achieved victory in Duet Singing and Extempore Speech, while the North Mumbai team triumphed in the initial round of Debate. The final round of Debate was a heart-race inducing showdown, ultimately won by the Kalina team.

The title of overall team champion however was taken by the North Mumbai team.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks, Rinthem Mahung, President of NSUM, expressed his gratitude to all the participants, organizers, and supporters.

Earlier the session was hosted by Ahiezo Viswentso and Thüjolü Phesao, the session began with an invocation by Pastor James Lana, Advisor of NSUM, followed by a warm welcome address by A. Asani Florence, Cultural & Literary Secretary. Acknowledgements were given to all the participants as well as the organizers, judges and the audience. The spirited war cry from the North Mumbai team had signalled the true beginning of the first series of intellectual and artistic contests.

A benediction by Alum Raikhan, Advisor of NSUM, concluded the first session, allowing for a brief interval to take place followed by the second session which was hosted by YouTuber Tiapong Tzudir, who is also known as the ‘Yatra Kid’.

The second session or the concert featured captivating performances by renowned artists as well as local artists including Winso Chamroy, Sunep A Jamir, Winnerson Khulusümo, Sankey A Rumthao, Pozii Paul, and Shirinwon Ramror. Their performances exhilarated the audience that were swayed by the melodious encores throughout the session and into the night. It finally came to an end in a musical note.

NSUM affirmed that the 13th NSUM Literary and Cultural Meet 2024 served as a proof to the vibrancy and creativity of Naga students and people, fostering unity and camaraderie among participants and the crowds. With its blend of intellectual discourse and artistic expression, the event left an indelible mark on all who attended, it said.
