In an unsettling video that has surfaced in social media, a Naga woman was physically assaulted on 25th September 2023 at Galaxy spa, Sindhu Bhavan Marg, Ahmedabad, Gujarat by the owner identified as Mohsin. The woman can be seen being dragged by the hair and hit several times by the accused.
In response to the assault, the woman has put up a video narrating the incident where she mentioned an altercation had occurred between them over the loss of an amount of about five thousand at the spa. In the video, the victim informed that she ran the salon in partnership with the accused Mohsin. The Naga woman reprimanded a girl at the salon over the loss suffered by the spa. The accused is said to have gotten upset and reproached the victim over why she was scolding the girl.
“When I asked him, ‘What relation do you have with her that you are so angry?’ he started hitting me. I told him not to raise his hands and to solve the issue in peace. But he kept hitting me,” stated the woman.
Following the assault, an FIR has been filed. The accused has also sought for forgiveness.
In a press statement, the Naga Students’ Union Gujarat has strongly condemned the physical assault against the Naga woman, terming it as a “reprehensible act of violence that took place” within the premises of the Spa.
“It is deeply disturbing to hear that a member of our community was subjected to such brutality, especially in a society that is to be a safety and peaceful well-being. The Naga people community has been an integral part of the diverse and culturally rich fabric of Gujarat for many years. We believe in the principles of unity in diversity and the peaceful coexistence of people from all backgrounds. Incidents like this not only tarnish the image of the state but also undermine the harmonious atmosphere we strive to maintain,” stated the press release issued by Matsungmeren Pongen, President and Erinbeni Ngullie, General Secretary of the Union.
