Naga Wrestling Championship from March 7 in Kohima

Under the aegis of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), 30th Naga Traditional Wrestling Championship comprises of 18 professional wrestlers each from Angami Sports Association (ASA), Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) and Zeliang Wrestling Association (ZWA) is all set to take place on March 7 the Day 2 at Khuochiezie where Chief Minister of Nagaland, Dr Niephiu Rio would grace the championship as the Special Guest while Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President, Sanjay Kunar Singh would be the Honoured Guest.

According to a press statement issued by NWA Joint Secretary, Kuzhovesa Soho, Day 1 on March 6 would also witness 1st NWA Under 15 and 1st Provisional Championship where Minister for

Tourism & Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along would grace the Championship as the Inaugural Guest.

Under 15 Championship eight wrestlers each would feature from Angami Sports Association (ASA),

Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) and Zeliang Wrestling Association (ZWA) while Provisional

Championship would be participated by Lotha Wrestling Association, Sumi Wrestling Association,

Pochury Wrestling Association, Rengma Wrestling Association, Chang Wrestling Association and

Sangtam Wrestling Association with 8 wrestlers each.

The following cash prizes along with citations will be awarded to the winners

  • First: Rs 6,00,000 along with plot of land measuring 100 ft X 100 ft located at Chumoukedima donated by Tepuleho Pusa & family of Viswema Village.
  • Second: Rs 3,00,000

  • Losing quarter finalists: Rs 20,000 each
  • All participants: Rs 10,000 each
  • Group Champion: Rs 60,000

Under 15

  • First: Rs 1,00,000

  • Fourth: Rs 40,000
  • Losing quarter finalists: Rs 10,000 each

  • All participants: Rs 5,000 each
  • Best Team: Rs 30,000

Reigning NWA Champion Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü would be torch bearer of the Championship while NWA former President, Neikhrolo Khalo would hoist the Association flag. Traditional songs, Naga traditional cuisine etc would also mark the 1st Wrestling Festival powered by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland on March 6 at Khuochiezie.
