Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio filed his nomination today at Chiephobozou, Additional Deputy Commissioner’s office for the ensuing state Assembly elections. He is contesting from Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) ticket from Northern Angami-II Assembly Constituency.
Speaking to a section of reporters on the sideline after filing nomination, Rio affirmed that NDPP-BJP alliance will come back to power as they do not see much challenges with the other political parties.
“As you maybe aware other political parties we don’t see much challenges though there are many parties so I am very hopeful that our alliance will come back to power,” said Rio.
While till date only one candidate Seyievilie Chachu from Congress party is contesting against Rio, when asked whether this will have an impact on his votes he stated,
“It depends any candidate on the political platform of a party I can’t take it just like that. It is an election. I respect any candidate.”
When asked whether he will be elected unopposed like in 2018, Rio replied, “Well, I am not sure about that but I hope good sense will prevail and let us see because it is democracy.”
Rio also said the NDPP party manifesto will be released soon and “Towards Excellence” will be the main party motto. Meanwhile, the NDPP-BJP will be also releasing their Common Minimum Program.
Further Rio also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are likely to visit the State on 2nd or 3rd week of February.
