Nagaland Assembly election: 6 candidates to battle for 6 Tening A/C

Peren: While Tarie Zeliang and Zandi Domta filed their nominations yesterday, the remaining 4 filed theirs today

6 candidates will battle out for 6 Tening Assembly Constituency in the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly Elections 2023, making it one of the constituencies with the highest number of candidates.

The candidates are Henry Zeliang from NPF, Rosy Thomson from Indian National Congress (INC), Namri Nchang from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Dr. Tumda Newme, Independent candidate, Zandi Domta from National People’s Party (NPP) and Tarie Zeliang from Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP). While Tarie Zeliang and Zandi Domta filed their nominations yesterday, the remaining 4 filed theirs today at the ADC office, Peren Town.

Henry Zeliang said that he was proud to represent Naga People’s Front because it is the oldest regional party in the region and it is the only party that can actively facilitate the Naga political settlement.

He stated that he decided to join politics because he realised that he cannot bring real changes to his people without involving in politics. Zeliang confessed that after he retired from his job with the Government of Nagaland, he had tried to bring development to his people and to improve their plight but that it was not possible.

Further Zeliang said that if he comes on top of the other candidates, his top priority is to build better roads and to improve medical facilities. He also said that he wishes to help the farmers and citizens use the naturally available resources to economically sustain themselves.

7th Peren and 6th Tening candidates files their nomination today.

Rosy Thomson, Indian National Congress

Rosy Thomson, only lady contesting against 5 male candidates in her first election, told Nagaland Tribune that she is confident and hope that she will win. Thomson said that if elected, she will work on empowering women and the youth. She also lamented that people do not support women in our state unlike other states and that women too should be given a chance to prove themselves.

Namri Nchang, Nationalist Congress Party

Namri Nchang, who is a member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and Advisor to Water resources, said that he is very confident and is willing to give a good fight this election. He also mentioned that besides road development, water supply, he has many other plans for Tening circle since its every backward and he wants to work for his people.

Dr. Tumda Newme, an Independent candidate backed by Northeast Democratic Front (NEDF), mentioned to Nagaland Tribune that he is contesting for the first time as a young candidate, that too as an Independent, because he has a vision to change the stagnancy in political culture with new ideas and approaches.

Newme said his mission is to maximize the resources and motivate the young generations, to uplift and to motivate the younger generation. He also assured to improve road infrastructure.
