Nagaland’s Chief Election officer V.Shashank Shekhar (IAS), Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha (IAS) and Director General of Police, Rupin Sharma (IPS), visited Wokha district on Saturday and held a series of meeting with District Administration, Police, Political Parties and civil organisations of Wokha district at the Office Chamber of the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Wokha.

The visit was made in the backdrop of certain incidents of pre-poll violence that have been reported in some districts including Wokha.
V.Shashank Shekhar, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland expressed confidence in the District Administration and Law enforcing agencies for taking proactive measures to maintain the Law and Order in the District and exhorted to remain vigilant during the poll and post poll period.
He further informed that even after the polling is over, if the conduct of electoral malpractices is found against any candidate, action would be taken as per the Law.
Home Commissioner said webcasting recordings will be reviewed to ascertain anomalies carried out by any candidate. Sinha informed that voter’s information slip is not allowed as identity proof, as one can vote only on producing EPIC ID or any other 12 identity cards approved by the Election Commission of India.
DGP Nagaland urged the party representative to create awareness among the electorate to avert creating the situation that may lead to violence. Sharma assured of sufficient security forces and appealed to the parties and Civil societies organisations to inculcate good behaviour among the party supporters and general public so that election can be conducted in safe and free and fair manner.

Representative of BJP, NCP, JDU, NDPP and NPF attended review meeting too. Lotha Hoho, Lotha Eloe Hoho, Wokha District Village Council Association represented the civil societies. The administrative team was also accompanied by Hiazu Meru, Joint Secretary and OSD to CEO, Sharon Longchari, Joint CEO, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, IAS Deputy commissioner and District Election Officer, Wokha and Aotula T.Imchen, IPS, Superintendent of Police ,Wokha.
The Lotha Hoho had on Friday sent appealed to all citizens to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and refrain from violence, which it said will create “a bad precedence in the days to come.”
On Saturday Lotha Eloe Hoho said that it was pained by the situation in the district and appealed to the public to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies.
It also requested the public to “uplift the spirit of free and fair election and maintain peace and harmony”.
