A press conference was held at Congress Bhavan Kohima regarding the Samvidhan Bachao rallies taking place across the country from April 25-30.
Christopher Thilak AICC Secretary in-charge of Nagaland, spoke about the rally, explaining that the nationwide Samvidhan Bachao campaign, organized by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) aims to protect the Constitution.
He emphasized that the Samvidhan Bachao program is designed to educate India’s youth and voters about the evolution of the Constitution the rights enshrined within it and the Congress party’s legacy in safeguarding the Constitution over the years.
“The reason we are now talking about saving the Constitution is because the BJP, which is ideologically driven by the RSS, poses a major threat to it, he added.
He stated that the RSS founded in 1925 had the primary agenda of establishing a Hindu Rashtra based on Manu’s ideology and had never participated in the freedom struggle.Instead, they allegedly collaborated with the British to further their agenda.
He accused the BJP of violating the Constitution extensively over the past decade, particularly in Northeastern states like Manipur where democratic institutions have been undermined. Manipur is a clear example—democratic institutions have been weakened, and under President’s Rule, the Home Minister is directly controlling the state. In Nagaland and other NE states, constitutional violations are rampant,” he said.
Given these concerns, he stressed the need to re-educate, agitate, and mobilize to defend the Constitution. He also announced plans to expand the movement to district and assembly levels including door-to-door campaigns to raise awareness among voters.
NPCC Working President Apok Jamir echoed these concerns, stating that the current political scenario directly infringes upon the Indian Constitution.
“The Congress party recognizes the serious consequences of these violations, which is why the Samvidhan Bachao movement aims to create awareness about how the Constitution is being systematically eroded,” he said.
He criticized the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for targeting senior Congress leaders without justification calling it political victimization and a dangerous trend that undermines individual rights.
“The Congress party stands for the people’s rights and opposes any policies that violate the Constitution. It’s time for the public to demand justice and prevent such harmful actions,”he added, promising more movements in the coming days.

MP Supongmeren Jamir accused the BJP of governing under the shadow of the RSS promoting Hindutva ideologies that even many Hindus oppose.
“They are systematically dismantling the Constitution by pushing for One Nation, One Election,One Nation, One Language and Uniform Civil Code (UCC)-all of which threaten India’s secular fabric,”he said.
He expressed concern over RSS influence in Nagaland citing a recent order (April 13)issued on a Sunday regarding IAS and NCS officer transfers which he claimed undermines the state’s autonomy.
“The Congress has demanded a corrigendum, but the government has not responded. We will fight to protect our religious rights and the sanctity of Christianity in Nagaland,” he asserted, stressing respect for all faiths while opposing RSS interference.
GK Zhimomi, NPCC Vice President urged the people of Nagaland not to fall for BJP’s false propaganda.
