Nagaland Forest Department announces Hornbill Tail Feather Creation Challenge

Kohima: Participants must create alternative hornbill tail feathers using sustainable materials

Nagaland Forest Department has announced the Hornbill Tail Feather Creation Challenge at the Hornbill Run 2023 in a bid to eliminate the traditional use of real hornbill feathers and save the bird which is listed as ‘Vulnerable’ in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

In this regard, the department encourages all people concerned about the preservation of the hornbill to participate in the Sustainable Alternative Hornbill Tail Feather Creation Challenge.

The event will take place at Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar, Dimapur, Nagaland on 4th December 2023 at 7:30 am.

Interested participants are asked to create an alternative hornbill tail feather with sustainable materials and present it at the event. Additionally, the participants should give an explanation of the inspiration, the materials used and the creative process.

Winners of the Hornbill Tail Feather Creation Challenge will be awarded Rs 20,000 as 1st Prize and Rs 10,000 as 2nd Prize.
