Nagaland got ₹64,768 crore in grant-in-aid in last 10 yrs: Union Minister Scindia lauds State’s growth on economic front

Chumoukedima: New high-level task force focusing on sports and tourism to be constituted

Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said that in the last ten years of Narendra Modi’s tenure as Prime Minister, Nagaland has received 64,768 crore rupees as grant-in-aid, which is double the amount prior to the earlier ten years.

The Union Minister had said this after a review meeting on MDoNER developmental projects of the State with Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio at Noune Resort in Chumoukedima on 14th November 2024.

A press release from Press Information Bureau, Kohima, informed that at the press conference, Scindia also stated that in the last ten years of Modi’s Government, Nagaland has received has received close to 37,000 crore rupees which is seven times increase in funding from the centre.

He also said that Nagaland has a very rich cultural heritage and history, economic growth state and is completely in line with the Prime Minister’s vision that in the coming years “Northeast must be the growth engine of the Indian economy.”

Stating that Nagaland is strategically placed as an entry point and a vista for the rest of South East Asia, the Union Minister said that the State has tremendous possibilities within the neighbourhood from an international perspective.

Nagaland has done tremendously well on the economic front, growing at close to about 8.5 % to 9% and the gross state domestic GDP is also at about 48,000 crore rupees, he added. The Union Minister asserted that Centre has worked in harmony along with the State to bring about the developmental goals on every single front.

Further, Scindia affirmed that Centre has committed that all town, cities and villages in the country will have 4G service by mid of next year and announced that Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland are being funded for installation of towers and infrastructure to an extent of 1,080 crore rupees.

Underlining the role of MDoNER as partner in the development of the eight North Eastern states including Nagaland, the Union Minister said the review meeting discussed a wide array and range of topics including handicrafts and handlooms, silk, agriculture, palm oil, tourism, infrastructure and internet connectivity.

In his address, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said the meeting held an extensive discussion and exchanged ideas and suggestions on how to collaborate for the development of the Northeast as an integral part of a developed India.

The Chief Minister welcomed the decision to establish a new high-level task force focusing on sports and tourism.
