The Home Department, Government of Nagaland, has notified on the upgradation of Meluri Sub-Division to a full-fledged District.

The Notification dated 2 November 2024 stated: “The Governor of Nagaland is pleased to upgrade Meluri Sub-Division to a full-fledged District with immediate effect.”

It also mentioned that the jurisdiction of the new district would comprise the existing Meluri Sub-Division under Phek District, Nagaland.

This is issued in pursuance of the approval of the Cabinet conveyed vide letter No.CAB-1/14/2023 dated 15 November, 2024, the Notification added.

Meanwhile, Former MLA and minister Yitachu has welcomed the development in a post on X platform and said that the “creation of Meluri District for Pochury tribes have completed the process of equitable developmental opportunity for every major tribes of Nagaland”.

“It is now time for every tribes to contribute towards the development of the state and nation buildings by generating revenue,” he added.
