Nagaland Govt to constitute Political Affairs Committee to facilitate Indo-Naga issue

Kohima: Committee to comprise of Council of Ministers and Legislature Leaders of all Political Parties

The Nagaland Government will be establishing a “Political Affairs Committee (PAC)” for the exclusive purpose of finding “an inclusive solution to the long drawn Indo-Naga Political issue as a facilitator.”

In a Circular issued on 10th May 2024, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye informed Legislative Party Leaders (LPL) that the decision for the constitution of PAC was made in a High Level Political meeting held on the 9th May 2024 under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.

“This is being initiated once again with a renewed vigour in furtherance to the spirit of the All Party Opposition-less Government in pursuit of a broad consensus for an early and amicable settlement,” Kenye added.

This Committee would comprise of the Council of Ministers and the Legislature Leaders of all the Political Parties in the 14th House of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, he stated, directing LPLs to initiate the formation of “Political Consultative Committees” in consultation with their respective Party organisations to deal with matters of the Indo-Naga political issue.

The size of the members comprising the PCs will vary as per the numerical strength of their Legislators in the 14th NLA as categorized below:

a) 10 MLAs and above- 7 Members Committee

b) 5 MLAs and above-5 Members Committee

c) 1 MLA and above-3 Members Committee

d) Independent MLAs- Convenor and Co-Convenor
