Nagaland launches Phase VI FMD vaccination mission

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH & VS), Nagaland launched the Phase VI of the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) Vaccination Mission under Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP) at the State Cattle Breeding Farm, Lerie, Kohima on October 15.

Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Dr BM Sunep, in his address apprised the officers and staff on the importance of timely vaccination by participation of all stake-holders for the success of this mission which is scheduled for a duration of two months starting from October 15 to December 15, 2025.

He also stressed on the direct impact of the economy of the farmers with the prevalence of such economically important disease in the State which needs to be effectively addressed and work towards its control and eradication by 2030, in line with the guidelines of LHDCP, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. The mission aims to immunize about 60000 cattle and other susceptible animals in the state against FMD, a highly contagious disease that poses a major threat to livestock.

As a continuing campaign in a mission mode, the department urged all livestock owners to avail this free vaccination from the designated vaccination centres or contact the nearest Veterinary Institutes mandatorily.

Director of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Dr BM Sunep, also administered the 1st vaccine to mark the launch of the Phase VI of the FMD Vaccination Mission in the state.
