Nagaland Legislative Assembly unanimously resolved to pass and adopt resolutions on UCC and FCA Act

The much discussed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and Forest (Conservative) Amendment Act 2023, took centre stage on Day One of the Second session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on 11 September 2023. Three government bills were also introduced during the Session.

Following the detailed discussion held on the two matters on the first day, the House unanimously resolved to pass and adopt resolutions on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act 2023, to exempt Nagaland from the proposed enactment of UCC and FCA Act and its application to the State of Nagaland.

The session commenced with the Members of the House paying homage to the departed leaders Noke Wangnao, former Minister and sitting Member of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, who passed away on 28 August 2023 and Manwai Awang, former Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly who passed away on 7 July 2023.

P. Paiwang Konyak, Minister Health and Family Welfare moved and introduced ‘The Nagaland Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2023’ and ‘The Nagaland Passengers & Goods Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2023’.

Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along moved and introduced the ‘North East Christian University (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023’.

 

K. G. Kenye, Minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs, laid the Fifth Report of the Rules Committee while, Advisor and Chairman of the Committee on Public Undertakings, Imkong L.Imchen, Advisor for Information and Public Relation and Soil and Water Conservation laid a copy of the Internal Working Rules of the Committee on Public Undertaking (First Amendment) 2023.

Chairman of the Estimates Committee (2023-2024), K. Tokugha Sukhalu also presented Assembly Committee reports.
