The Kohima Press Club (KPC) celebrated National Press Day under the theme ‘The Media’s role in Nation Building’ here at LCS building, Kohima with Rupin Sharma, IPS Director General of Police, Prisons, Home Guards, Civil defence & SDRF as the Guest Speaker.
Guest Speaker Rupin Sharma speaking on the theme stated Nagaland media is the least corrupted and least polluted except on tribal lines and other factors.

He also observed that media in Nagaland lacks investigative journalism and encouraged the Nagaland media to also focus on this area.
Speaking on the aspect of nation building, Sharma asserted that nation building has to be within the framework of the Constitution of India.

KPC General Secretary Atono Tsükrü Kense in her brief keynote address said the Press Council of India has given ‘the role of media in nation building’ as the theme to appreciate, analyse and ascertain the plausible ways that may pave the way towards preserving the standards of Indian media which is celebrated as the fourth pillar of democracy.
She pointed out that in this era of digitalisation, the press is witnessing ethical journalism being inundated in an abyss of immediacy and sales, rather than professionalism and credibility.
“We are in such a time where many are charmed by the digital spaces and have become pseudo-journalists distorting the ethics of journalism,” she added.
She also reminded the members to stand by the code of journalistic ethics i.e., truth and accuracy, of being independent voices, fairness and impartiality, accountability and humanity.
The KPC Impact Journalism Award 2022 was conferred to Vishü Rita Krocha, journalist and author for her contribution towards ‘Rural Journalism.’
Three journalists from Nagaland were also presented the KPC – Nagaland Building and other construction Workers Welfare Board Media Fellowship certificate and grant.
Earlier, Rana Chetri invoked God’s blessings and an instrumental piece was presented by Seyie Keretsu.
