The National Education Day 2024 was held at Alder College Kohima under the theme “Education for change” on November 11.
The event was organised by Nagaland Education Association in collaboration with the Department of Education, Alder College Kohima.
In his speech, Guest Speaker Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, emphasized the importance of understanding various forms of literacy. With the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), he noted that India is making significant strides to enhance its education system.
He remarked that education represents one of the most substantial investments in development, urging the efficient use of resources. Announcing that 69 private schools would soon receive recognition, Yhome said, “Education is the key to freedom”, encouraging individuals to uplift themselves to match the progress of the nation.

Drawing attention to the lack of quality education, the Advisor stressed the need to prioritize quality over quantity. The advisor called for improvements in the quality of educational institutions in Nagaland and highlighted the necessity for more B.Ed-trained teachers. Additionally, he indicated that efforts are underway to enhance the governance system and improve the livelihoods of teachers, many of whom are undercompensated.
He also announced that the Nagaland Minimum Wage 2024 will be monitored for teachers, ensuring that teachers in private schools, who are often underpaid, receive fair pay. He emphasized the need for teachers to be properly trained and to work in alignment with their skills. The advisor further highlighted that new education service will soon be introduced.
The program began with an invocation by Dr. Levino L. Yhoshü, Dean of Alder College. The welcome address was delivered by General Secretary of the NEA, Dr. Kholia, while President of the NEA, Dr. Bweyhunle Khing, also provided welcoming remarks.
“Release of Pursuance”:A peer reviewed annual interdisciplinary journal published by Alder college Kohima was also released earlier.
