Nagaland’s lone Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), S Supongmeren Jamir on Monday joined hundreds of INDIA Alliance parliamentarians and leaders, including Leaders of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi, in a protest march from the Parliament House to the Election Commission of India office. The march was organised to register strong opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the ill-advised electoral roll revision policy being implemented in Bihar.
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) in a communique expressed its “full solidarity” with MP Jamir and his fellow opposition MPs in strongly condemning the ruling government’s refusal to allow a discussion on this matter in Parliament, despite repeated and persistent demands.

“Equally deplorable was the government’s high-handed and anti-democratic act of arresting these peaceful protestors midway through the march. The collusive actions of the Modi Government and the Election Commission of India are not merely an assault on the principles of a free and fair electoral system in Bihar, but, if allowed to proceed, will have grave consequences for the nation as a whole, eroding the democratic fabric of India from the highest levels of governance down to the grassroots,” the NPCC stated.
The party asserted its commitment to stand by its leaders and to continue resisting the injustice until democracy prevails.
