The Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) has announced that the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2026, earlier scheduled to be held from April 7 to 18, have been postponed until further notice.
In a notification issued by NOA assistant secretary general, Neivikuolie Khatsu, it was stated that the Games were originally planned to be hosted across Kohima, Chümoukedima and Dimapur during the announced dates.
However, following a review of the schedule and consultations with affiliated sports associations and other stakeholders, the Association decided to postpone the event in order to ensure wider participation and the smooth conduct of the Games.
According to the NOA, one of the primary reasons for the postponement is that a significant number of participating athletes are students and the previously scheduled dates coincide with examinations and other academic commitments in various educational institutions. The Association noted that holding the Games during this period could affect the participation of student athletes.

The Association also pointed out that the earlier dates overlap with certain pre-scheduled sporting activities and competition calendars of several state sports associations and national sports federations. This could potentially impact the availability of athletes, teams and technical officials required for the successful conduct of the Games.
NOA stated that postponing the event would provide districts, associations and athletes with additional time for preparation and coordination, thereby helping to ensure broader participation while maintaining a high standard of competition.
The Association informed that revised dates for the Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2026 would be announced in due course after completing necessary coordination with the concerned stakeholders.
Reaffirming its commitment to promoting and developing sports in the state, the Nagaland Olympic Association said it will continue working towards creating meaningful platforms and opportunities for athletes and sports enthusiasts across Nagaland to showcase their talents and pursue excellence in sports.
All affiliated associations, districts, athletes and stakeholders have been requested to take note of the notification and extend their continued cooperation.
